Victor Bray

Comorbidities and Collaborative Care in the Audiology Patient

Today, the audiologist’s scope of practice is to prevent, diagnose, and treat hearing and balance disorders. Tomorrow, the role of the audiologist will be to provide preventive care and holistically manage patients who present with auditory and vestibular dysfunction. Intrinsic to the holistic management of patients is embracing the knowledge that hearing and balance disorders often do not occur in isolation but are symptoms of bodily disease.

Gail Whitelaw

The Role of Audiology in addressing "functional" hearing loss

This session is designed to address the current definitions of "functional hearing loss," those patients that present with 'normal' audiograms but express difficulty listening. A number of concepts will be explored including current World Health Organization (WHO) direction on functional communication, the concept of subclinical hearing loss, and issues in quantifying and qualifying aspects of communication for this population.

Duncan Floyd

Assistive Listening: Hearing Accessibility in a Community Setting

After graduating from Dalhousie’s School of Human Communication Disorders in 1996, Duncan Floyd has practiced audiology in three countries. He has worked in his home province of Nova Scotia, at Sichuan University in Cheng-du, China, and with Northern Maine ENT Associates in the great American state of Maine.

Janine Verge

Assistive Listening: Hearing Accessibility in a Community Setting

Janine Verge has worked as a clinical audiologist for the past 20 years. She obtained her BSc (Psychology) at Mount Saint Vincent University, her MSc (Audiology) from Dalhousie University, and her AuD from A.T. Still University.

Update in Sudden and Asymmetrical Hearing Loss, a Collaboration of Audiology and Medicine

As our population ages, the healthcare system is under increasing strain. With access to primary care at an all-time low and waitlists for specialty care at an all-time high, physicians need help to manage the system. The system will have to change to meet these needs. Audiologists now have an opportunity to expand their role in healthcare by diagnosing medical conditions and directing patient care.
